In Japan, shopping centers are something you will see a lot of.
Where shopping malls in America may not have the same type of dominance as it did in the ’80s and ’90s, in Japan, even with today’s modern society where online shopping has been dominant, many developers has managed to create upscale retail shopping centers combined with high-rise apartment towers and making the modern, sleek cultural centers where a lot of cool restaurants, shopping that managed to capture various demographics of shoppers but also enticing families, couples but also stores that enhance the living of customers.
As for Futako-Tamagawa Rise, the shopping center consists of three sections, Futako-Tamagawa Rise consists of a multi-floor building while nearby is the Futako Tamagawa Rise Oak Mall and Futako-Tamagawa Rise Birds Mall.
And location is the key for Futako-Tamagawa Rise.
Since the 1920’s, Tama New Town was planned to be one of the largest housing developments in Japan. This was a response too the influx of people moving to Tokyo and with the congestion, caused prices to skyrocket and without the expansion being controlled, it would lead to poor infrastructure. So, in 1965, Tama New Town was a way to bring hundreds of thousands of people and have them live in a planned, urban environment.
In the nearby vicinity, the location would bring in upscale shopping stores and to bring more people into the area, Futako Tamagawa Rise was created to enhance the area and entice successful individuals who could afford the $1.8 million apartments or the $11,000 a month for rent.
The shopping center consists of the town front (8 floors), the river front (16 floors), terrace market (5 floors) and the station market (1 floor).
The Town Front is like a typical Japanese shopping complex filed with restaurants, cafe and a lot of fashion-driven shopping.
The River Front of Futako-Tamagawa Rise is quite awesome. While the five floors are primarily all shopping and restaurants, floors 6-16 are offices. I was amazed by the overall design of this modern facility and it was no doubt the hippest, modern shopping complex that I have ever seen in my life.
Possibly one of the coolest, high-end markets I have seen in Japan or even in the world.
The Terrace Market, which is outdoors, is where the cinema and Rakuten-related stores are located. But you’ll also find, restaurants, bookstores and more!
Seriously, this is probably one of the best shopping complexes that I have ever been to and I’ve been to many!
